Materials
Beach House Stairs stock a variety of timbers:
- BlackButt
- Victorian Ash (aka Tasmanian Oak)
- Blue Gum
- Rose Gum
- Brush Box (*)
- Grey Iron Bark
- Merbau (aka KWILA)
- Jarrah
- Meranti (aka maple)
- Radiata Pine
- Cypress Pine
- Spotted Gum (*)
- Turpentine
The stairs, balusters, handrails and newell posts can be made from any of these timbers.
Steel stringers or powdercoated centre steel spines are also available, as are Balusters in stainless steel or wrought iron.
If the treads and risers are to be covered (eg. with carpet, flooring or tiles), the Stairs would normally be made out of medium density fibre board (MDF) which reduces material and production costs, while producing a good, sound staircase.
We never use MDF for stringers, only Solid timber, usually pine.
* Some timbers are not suitable for some applications and environments (see attached disclaimer)
